Visa Requirements

There are different types of visas that are required to travel to this country. Please take the time to review them to confirm which visa type is best suited for you.

TOURIST Visa Documents Required:

 

1.Passport Requirements:

Your most recent passport (Original version) NOT COPY.
  • Be valid for the next (6) six months 
  • Have at least two blank visa pages back to back 
  • Not be frayed, torn, separating, or altered in any other way
    1. If you are a U.S. alien resident, provide a copy of your Green Card, copy of original or valid alien registration card or valid U.S. resident visa, Student ID Card or a valid U.S. Work Visa

    In addition to original passport, all applicants are required to attach a photocopy of the bio-data page of their passports to completed forms

-An original signature of the applicant on the signature line on the application form. Please make sure that your signature is on the line, and that the signature must match the signature in the applicants passport.

Every question on the application must be answered, answer NONE where it does not apply to you. 

-Applications must be typed in BLOCK CAPITAL LETTERS; handwritten changes are not accepted. on the applicant’s passport. 

-DOUBLE SIDED APPLICATIONS ARE NOT ACCEPTED.  

-New York: Travelers who have visited Turkey in the past must provide a signed copy of an affidavit giving the exact dates and purpose(s) of every trip make to Turkey, Kazakhstan and Pakistan. The dates must match all entry/exit stamps in the traveler’s passport. 

Two Visa Application Forms per applicant properly completed and signed. Signature must be original on each application. Improperly completed forms may delay the processing of your visa.

3.Photo Requirements:

Two recent 2 x 2 passport type photographs, in color, front view and with a plain/light background. (snapshots are not accepted).

4. Proof of Travel & Accommodations 

A photocopy of the round trip airline ticket and hotel reservation or a cruise ticket may be submitted instead of the official invitation from China. 

– OR – 

An Invitation Letter for Tourist Group or Invitation Letter for Tourist by a Duly Authorized Tourism Unit, or Invitation Letter issued by companies, corporations, institutions and individuals in China. If the invitation letter is issued by an individual in China, the photocopy of the ID of the individual is required. If the invitation letter is from a Non-Chinese citizen, the ID must be a copy of the valid passport, and a copy of legal status in China is required. If the inviter in China is a relative of the traveler, they must provide legal documentation proving family relationship, such as a birth or marriage certificate. 

A letter of invitation must explain the relationship between the host and the applicant and must include detailed information about the applicant, including full name, gender, date of birth, and passport number. The letter must also state the purpose of visit, where the applicant will stay, and the date of arrival and departure from China. The letter must indicate who will be responsible for the cost of the applicant’s accommodations in China and information about the inviting host: name of the unit or individual, phone number, address, and if applicable, seal and signature of the legal representative.

Special Instructions

 

Proof of Travel Arrangements: 

Computer generated flight or cruise itinerary or copy of airline tickets or cruise ticket showing round trip travel to China or onward flight. 

New York: 

Itinerary/copy of ticket must show the round trip itinerary starting from the home country (USA or Canada) to China and returning to the home country. It must show paid in full, or the payment receipt must be attached.  

Hotel Confirmation: 

New York: An official invitation or a copy of confirmed hotel reservation, tour itinerary or cruise itinerary; which must show paid in full or payment receipt must be attached. The applicant’s name must be listed on their hotel reservation.  

Job Description: 

New York: If the applicant is currently self-employed, a brief profile of the company and a job description must be submitted. This informal, one-paragraph letter should offer a short description of the company as well as list the applicant’s job title and a brief explanation of the job. This letter is not required to be printed on company letterhead.  

Other Forms: 

New York: Travelers who have visited Turkey in the past must provide a signed copy of an affidavit giving the exact dates and purpose(s) of every trip make to Turkey, Kazakhstan and Pakistan. Dates must match all entry/exit stamps in the traveler’s passport and all trips mentioned on the visa application form.  

Criminal Record: 

New York: Travelers with a past criminal record must make a personal appearance to submit an application. This includes DUI, DWI, and similar offences.  

Previous Visa: 

New York: Applicants who have previously traveled to China must provide a copy of the previous Chinese visa and previous passport’s information page, if the visa was issued to a previous passport. 

Country of Origin: 

Applicants of Chinese origin, (born in China), must include a copy of a previous Chinese visa or their last original Chinese passport. Chinese Name field must be completed in Chinese characters on the application. 

In Person Appearance: 

New York: 

For media related companies and/or professions: 

The Chinese consulate in New York requires some travelers to submit in person to provide finger print scans. If the Chinese consulate request finger printing Emergency Expedited Passports and Visas will notify you on the in person appearance to the New York Consulate. Once you’ve submitted your documents Emergency Expedited Passports and Visas can assist with collecting your visa using the receipt from the consulate and return the completed visa to you on the release date. 

BUSINESS Visa Documents Required:

4. Letter of Invitation:

A letter of invitation on company letterhead from the host company in China, signed by an appropriate representative of the inviting organization and must be stamped with the company seal. 

Consular Officers may call the inviting host to verify information on the invitation and the visa application. Consular Officer may try to reach the inviting person during what maybe nighttime in China, and it is important the call is expected. 

The Letter of Invitation from China must include the following: 

  • Name, gender, nationality, date of birth and passport number of the applicant 
  • Full name of employer and applicant’s job title (US Company) and Purpose of visit (what kind of business) 
  • City and province to be visited 
  • Dates of entrance and exit from China, specifying validity of visa being requested (single, double, multiple entries, 3 month, 6 month, etc.) 
  • Information about the relationship between the Chinese and US companies 
  • Who will provide financial support in China for the duration of stay 
  • Full name of the company in China which invited applicant 
  • Full name, job title, address, phone and fax numbers of the contact at company (in China) 
  • Signature of the inviting contact (in China) and company stamp 
 
 

 5. Business Cover Letter:

New York: Letter from US based employer or sponsoring company, on company letterhead, which must introduce the applicant, indicate the applicant’s employment status/position held in the company, and clearly state the purpose of visit to China.  

The business cover letter must also indicate financial responsibility for the applicant, provide detailed contact information in host country, and specify the number of entries (single, double or multiple) and visa validity 3 month, 6 month, 1 year, 10 year) being requested.

A valid Student visa is required for travel to China 

Residents of these states apply in New York : Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Vermont. 

A Chinese student visa is required for enrollment in a study course in China.  
A Chinese student (X1) visa is typically issued for long-term study (more than 180 days) in China. 
A Chinese student (X2) visa is typically issued for short-term study (less than 180 days) in China.

4.Work Permit:

Original and one photocopy of the Work Permit for Aliens issued by the Chinese Labor Ministry or the original and one photocopy of the Foreign Expert’s License issued by the Chinese Foreign Expert Bureau.  

Accompanying family members must submit a visa notification issued by the authorized Chinese unit (usually the Foreign Affairs Office of the local government) and proof of kinship, such as a certified marriage certificate or certified birth certificate.

Also, if your intended work duration is 90 days of less, you must provide the original and photocopy of the approval for Short-term Employment for Foreigners Working in the People’s Republic of China.

CHINA AUTHENTICATION & LEGALIZATION

Basic Documents to be Submitted:

  1. The photocopy of the authentication page issued by the Secretary of State (the page with the signature and seal of the Secretary of State).

4.If the application is submitted by the applicant him/herself, the applicant needs to provide the original and photocopy of his/her valid passport or ID(For Chinese applicants, please provide valid Chinese passport; For American applicants, please provide valid passport or driver’s license; For applicants of other countries, please provide the valid passport).  

  1. If your application is submitted by an agent, please complete Section 2 on the application form and include one copy of the applicant’s valid passport as well as the original and photocopy of the agent’s passport/driver’s license.
